The beginning

Although I am starting this blog one month into my Network Marketing journey, I will back track to bring you up to speed on what has transpired on a daily basis.

It all started, or should I say, Re-started at the State Fair of Texas

A fellow cooking show host came to my exhibit and said “Steve, I’ve got something I think you are going to like. Do you have anything that you need to advertise?”

I said, “What do you mean?”

“Are you still doing the hypnosis shows?” she said, “You need to advertise for that don’t you?”

“Yes” I told her.

Boy, was she excited. “Do you have your computer in the RV?” She took out a pen and paper. “Go to this web address and check out this online advertising site. You get seven full page ads for $7.77 per month.”

"Okay, I'll take a look. Why the big smile?"

"Because.." she said, "If you advertise, I will get $2 per month as a referral fee. And, if you get somebody to advertise, you will get $2 per month and I will get $1 per month from them."

"Got you." I said. "Multi-level Marketing."

"Well, yes, but better. It's a seven by seven matrix. You can only have seven people below you and they can only have seven people below each of them. Seven levels deep. And you will get a referral fee from all of them."

"The best part" she went on to say, "is that you actually get online advertising for your $7.77. That's not much to pay for seven full page ads on the web. If you get four other people to do it, you are now getting the ads for free. They get people and now you are making money as well. Come on Steve, a real no-brainer."

I must admit, I saw the wisdom of what she was saying.

Besides $7.77 was not a large investment. Heck, even if I tried it for a year, it was less than $100.

I did have one concern, "What if I can't find people who have something to advertise?"

She looked at me with amazement in her eyes. "You could advertise a garage sale if you wanted to. It doesn't matter. You'll see when you get to the web page. It's like an online classified ad page except you can make your ad full page. With the potential of the pay out, who cares what you advertise? If somebody responds to your ad, well, that's a win-win isn't it?"

I did go back to the RV that night and look at the web site. Although I did not sign up that night, I was intrigued.

The next day, she was back at my exhibit. "Did you look at it?"

"I did, but to be honest, I was a bit tired and did not look at everything. But, I will."

"Steve, it's $7.77 a month and you can opt out at any time. Just sign up."

I signed up that night just so I wouldn't have to make excuses to her the next day.

Now, keep in mind that the State Fair of Texas is a 24 day fair. All of this transpired on days 5 and 6.
Once I was signed up, I made one page information sheets and passed them out to the other vendors in my building.

By the end of the fair, I had 12 people signed up below me. When I got home, I had two checks waiting for me from Shop the Seven. One for $49 (a bonus for getting 7 people signed up within 7 days) and another for $12 (the first 4 that signed up in the current months pay period).

Remember that I said earlier that you could only have 7 directly below you. I signed up 12. The overflow of 5 went below my seven (made them very happy).

The good news is that the program worked. I was making more than I was spending.

The bad news is that when the fair was over, I did not have any more vendors to approach. That left family and friends. Does that sound familiar?

As I mentioned at the beginning, this was the re-start of my Network Marketing Journey. I was involved with all kinds of business opportunities; Amway, QuickStar, Melaluca, Herbalife, SFI and others that I can not even remember.

So when I approached my friends and family with this, their reaction was "Oh, no. Not again."
Many of you might have similar experiences.

But, I was once again bit by the Network Marketing bug. One thing I knew for sure was that Network Marketing works. I just have to find the formula and do the work.

What didn't work was the old school way of recruiting. My friends and family would run and hide when they see me coming.

I happened to belong to a group on LinkedIn and read an article by one of the members that talked about the success of Attraction Marketing. She gave a link for more information. I followed it and here we are.

What is going to follow is a day by day account of what I am doing, the results and lessons learned along the way.

Although this is my journal, I hope it helps you as well (that is if there is a 'You' out there reading this).
Just for your reference;
If you do sign up, please put #358 in the referred by box (if it is not already there)
This is where I ended up when I clicked on the link from the LinkedIn article.
